　トーキング・ヘッズの「ワンス・イン・ア・ライフタイム」が、まさかこんな重要なことを歌っていたとは、今までよく分かっていなかった。
　これまでずっと、都会に生きる人間が強迫神経症的に追い込まれ、現実逃避で妄想にとらわれた（という現実を、シリアスかつちょっとユーモアをもって表現した）曲だと思っていたのだが、どうやら本質は違うところにあったようだ。
　なぜなら、こう歌っているからだ。

　いつかと同じ、ずっと同じ
　時間はとどまることはないし、我々の後を追っているわけでもない
　ずっと同じ
　日々は過ぎていく
　人生は一度だけ
　水の流れに身を任せよう

　そう、きみは自分自身に問いかけるかもしれない。「あの豪邸はなんだろう？」「あのハイウェイはどこに行く？」。そして自問自答するかもしれない。「ぼくは正しいのか？ 正しくないのか？」
　そしてこう言うかもしれないんだ。
　「ああ、なんてことだ！」
